Old London Prints
Wenceslaus Hollar arrived in London in 1636 and spent much of the rest of his life drawing it. His etchings are the best record we have of the city before the Great Fire of 1666 swept away its medieval heart.
This collection brings together Hollar's London from The Metropolitan Museum of Art: London before the Great Fire, Old St Paul's Cathedral with its long Gothic nave, the Tower of London, the Royal Exchange, and views across the Thames from Arundel House, the Milford Stairs and Whitehall. Prospects of London Before and After the Great Fire shows the city on either side of the disaster. Also here are his views of Bonn, Rüdesheim and Lillo, the coronation procession of Charles II, and John Speed's 1631 Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World.
A Hollar view makes a fine gift for a Londoner, and pairs well with Hogarth's Gin Lane. Pair any two prints and save 15%. Free UK delivery on orders over £40.
