Botanical & Bird Prints
Before photography, the only way to record a flower or a bird was to paint it, and the artists in this collection did so with extraordinary care.
Pierre-Joseph Redouté, often called the Raphael of flowers, painted for Marie Antoinette and later for the Empress Joséphine at Malmaison. His engravings for Les Liliacées and Les Roses are among the most celebrated botanical images ever published. John James Audubon set out to paint every bird in North America at life size, and the hand-coloured plates of The Birds of America show warblers, thrushes, sparrows and flycatchers among the plants they lived on. Alongside them are Maria Sibylla Merian's insect and plant studies and Johanna Helena Herolt's poppy, all from The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Hang three Redouté flowers in matching white frames in a kitchen or hallway, or four Audubon songbirds in a grid. Pair any two prints and save 15%. Free UK delivery on orders over £40.
